I was wandering around the beach area earlier this week. There was a group of biologists counting steelhead near the river mouth. One of them exclaimed to me “that it had been a great year for steelhead. They had counted over 3000 so far!” Remarkable!

On June 10th between 2000 and 3000 surfers paddled out in honor of Jack O’Neill. Thousands more lined the cliffs along East Cliff Drive. The paddlers were old, young and in-between. They rode on every kind of surf craft from Costco foamies to fine, hand shaped wooden boards. It was an event, a scene and a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to surfing!
