Further adventures with the Holga 135BC.

The other day I was testing out a new plastic camera, the Holga 135BC. Izzy's untied Converse and her tattoo caught my eye. Momento Mori is Latin meaning "remember your mortality". She thinks of it as a reminder to live each day.

Wednesday morning at Seabright State Beach. Seabright will start seeing reduced services starting July 1, 2011 due to state budget cuts. Well used by locals and tourists, it will be interesting to see what happens when state parks stops picking up the trash.

The two or three regular followers of this blog probably noticed that I haven't posted in awhile. Usually, that means I'm off somewhere making photos and having a good time. Unfortunately, that's not the case this time. I tweeked my neck a few weeks ago and finally had to stop everything. No camera lugging, darkroom working or photoshopping (not to mention no surfing and no biking). Happily, I enjoy reading on the couch. Anyway, I'm on the mend and hope to be back to regular photo activities soon. In the meantime, you have "Kites". I took this a few years ago at a kite flying contest and only recently printed and hand colored it.

I like the little bend in the middle of the palm tree and the wave breaking.

In front of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is a unique sculpture by Chris Burton. It's made of two-hundred and two restored, cast iron, antique, street lamps from the LA area. In the bright SoCal light, shadows and patterns are everywhere.

The beach areas in San Diego, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Ocean Beach feel like quintessential SoCal beach towns. Surfers, palm lined streets, cottages, duplexes and small bungalows dot the landscape. You're never far from the sound and smell of the Pacific Ocean. If you squint and use your imagination you're transported to the 50's, 60's or early 70's.

Heading home on Highway 88 at fifty-five miles per hour I saw this lamp right on the edge of an apple orchard. It looked so Holgaesgue. Should I stop? A half mile later I made a U-turn and drove back for this photo.
