The happy accident! Something unexpected happened to this film. Most likely the Holga I was using was in the process of dying. The negatives are bullet proof, nearly black, WAY overexposed. I made a contact sheet anyway and worked on one of the negatives. This is the result. As my students used to say when their prints were funky, "I like it that way".

What do I like about this photo? The lines, the sky, the tilt of the man on the right and the balance.

I just printed this photo and I was drying it on my t-shirt as I slipped it into the scanner. I guess you could say I was a little excited. Something about the light, water, sky and boats feels like what I was seeing when I clicked the shutter on my Holga. Oh, and that beautiful Tri-X grain. Film lives!

One of my photos made the cover of Light Leaks magazine! If you're into any sort of "toy camera" (Holga, pinhole, Diana, etc) then you know Light Leaks is THE publication devoted to these sorts of cameras. I'm stoked and honored to be selected for the cover of Light Leaks 17!!! Cover design by Michael Barnes.
