Trio of Palms

This trio of palm tree photos is from Salton City, another community on the Salton Sea.

Like Desert Shores, Salton City started as a resort community. It fell on hard times
but has been rejuvenated in the past 20 years.
This area along the former water front still has an apocalyptic look.

Morning Scene

I was out early this morning hoping to surf a fresh south swell. The waves didn’t
materialize but the scene out on the Capitola Wharf was pretty nice.
Quiet and funky!

Desert Shores

Desert Shores is a community on the Salton Sea. It started as a resort in the 1950’s.
It was hit by tropical storms in 1976 and 1977 flooding the town. Since then it has fallen
on hard times. Increased salinity and receding water have created concern about
asthma and other health issues for residents. Fortunately, after years of neglect, there
are restoration efforts underway.

View From Ryan Mountain

The Ryan Mountain Trail in Joshua Tree National Park is a short but steep climb.
The view from the top is one of the best in the park!

On the Road Again

On the drive from Death Valley to Joshua Tree we passed through Amboy, CA.
Amboy is known for Roy’s Motel and Cafe and it’s iconic sign.
The gas station next door to the defunct Roy’s was the attraction for us. We
grabbed a cold soda, sat for awhile and enjoyed the scene.
I’d love to go back and spend a few hours photographing the place and the people
stopping in for gas and a cold drink.
