Roadside Memorial v.2

A couple of weeks ago I posted an iPhone photo of this memorial.
A few days after that I drove up in the early morning to make a
few black and white photos with a medium format
film camera. I have to admit, the scene looks much better in color.
There’s not much separation in black and white, the sense of faded
color is lost and the coastal landscape is unremarkable.

Oh well, not every photo is successful.

Unhappy Accident

Photographers love to use the term “a happy accident” to describe a
successful photograph that happened by chance. Above is an “unhappy accident”. I’m not 100% sure what happened
My guess would be it has something to do with heat. There’s the blotchy grey areas and the frame numbers showing in the photo. It’s a mystery. Too bad! This roll was from a classic day walking on South County beaches.

Roadside Memorial

Photographed near Wilder Ranch yesterday while on a morning bike ride.
The memorial has been there for a long time. I’ve biked and driven by many times thinking it was a photograph. With the grass and weeds cut around it and the sky and ocean in sight, yesterday was the day!

Up Early

Up and out of the house early this morning. Sunrise in Capitola.
A father and son kayak team heading out for some fishing.
Beach runner enjoying the solitude and morning calm.

Capitola Scene

I was out early this morning trying to take advantage of a new swell,
the first warm weather of spring and get a jump on the crowd.
Before paddling out I made a few quick iPhone photos.
It almost felt like a typical spring morning.

Valencia Road

Seen while on a bike ride this morning. Apple trees are starting to bloom.
It feels good to #getoutside during these unprecedented and crazy times.

Old Haunts

These three photos are from Fall 2019. Post rain storm at the beach.
The Fun Zone was empty.
The puddles, sky and reflections were eye catching.

#getoutside

Yesterday the 335 Covid Crew got outside.
We motored to Henry Coe State Park near Morgan Hill. Coe is the biggest state park in Northern California, but relatively unknown.
It’s a beautiful spot for a springtime outdoor adventure.
Trees and wildflowers were popping off. The trails were empty. A bit of light rain
added to the fun.
At the end of the day we all felt recharged and excited by our mini-adventure.
