Mylar
I’m seeing more abandoned mylar balloons on beaches and in wetlands these days. Turtles, fish, dolphins and whales mistake balloons for food. Once eaten, the balloon becomes lodged in the digestive track inhibiting the animals ability to eat, causing a slow death by starvation. Think about this next time you have a birthday party and skip the balloons.

Privates Beach
Privates has been getting a lot of press lately. The California Costal Commission wants to ensure everyone has access to the beach there. Philosophically, good idea. Practically, I’m not so sure. Here’s what the beach looks like on a foggy summer day with a small south swell.

Roadtrip Continued
On the way back to Copenhagen from Skagen we stopped a couple of places to check out the countryside. It was a classic day with a dramatic sky and occasional sunshine.
No trip to Denmark would be complete without a wind turbine photo! They’re everywhere!

Four Houses
Areas of Skagen can only be described as picturesque or quaint.
These photos were made a few miles outside of town in the area we stayed.
The houses around the downtown area were equally as colorful and of similar architecture.
It was fun to walk around when the light was nice and check out the colors, shapes and forms.

Sand Dunes & Wetlands
Sixteen kilometers south of Skagen there’s an area of sand dunes and wetlands called the Råbjerg Mile. We spent a drizzly morning exploring the area.
The sand dunes stretched for miles. For scale, the dot at the top of the dunes is two people.
The size and the emptiness of the Råbjerg Mile was impressive.

Roadtrip North
After returning from Bergen, we rented a car and did a quick road trip.
We drove to Skagen, the very northern most point in Denmark. Sand dunes, beach pebbles and empty beaches awaited us.
It was cold and at times seemed desolate. We found the landscape to be very beautiful.
