Tienda de Ropa

I took this photo a little over a year ago in Mulegé, Baja California Sur. I'm usually running six months to a year behind on my finished printing. The process goes like this. After developing the film and making contact sheets I edit and select the negatives I want to print. I then make work prints on resin coated paper. The photos I like I keep out on my light table or stick up on the wall by my desk. After a while if I still feel good about the photo I'll make a nice fiber print. Then I tone the print with selenium or sepia toner. Finally I will hand color the photograph if coloring works with the subject.

Road Trip

When I got to Fort Bragg all the shops were closed and the streets were almost empty

I went on a quick road trip this week. Santa Cruz to Portland via scenic highways 1 and 101 and Portland back to Santa Cruz on less scenic I-5. The purpose of the trip was to bring my daughter home after her second year of college. It turned out to be more driving than photo taking but I did make a few snapshots along the way. On the first day, when I got to Fort Bragg all the shops were closed and the streets were almost empty. This store window caught my eye.

Pacific Avenue Still Life

This guy paints on Pacific Avenue, displays his wares and walks around shirtless with his guitar

This guy paints on Pacific Avenue, displays his wares and sometimes walks around shirtless with his guitar. He mentioned that he "really needed to get thirty bucks for the painting".

Old Flowers

I liked the way these looked on the kitchen counter just before going into the compost.

Imperfect still life.

Recession

In economics, a recession is a business cycle contraction, a general slowdown in economic activity over a period of time.[1][2] During recessions, many macroeconomic indicators vary in a similar way. Production as measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment, investment spending, capacity utilization, household incomes, business profits and inflation all fall during recessions; while bankruptcies and the unemployment rate rise. Recessions are generally believed to be caused by a widespread drop in spending. Governments usually respond to recessions by adopting expansionary macroeconomic policies, such as increasing money supply, increasing government spending and decreasing taxation.
