This trio of palm tree photos is from Salton City, another community on the Salton Sea.
Like Desert Shores, Salton City started as a resort community. It fell on hard times but has been rejuvenated in the past 20 years. This area along the former water front still has an apocalyptic look.
Desert Shores is a community on the Salton Sea. It started as a resort in the 1950’s. It was hit by tropical storms in 1976 and 1977 flooding the town. Since then it has fallen on hard times. Increased salinity and receding water have created concern about asthma and other health issues for residents. Fortunately, after years of neglect, there are restoration efforts underway.
