A subway ride away from downtown and off most tourist maps is Marche´d´Antan. A big, crazy indoor flea market.
We spent a morning browsing.
Madame Bijoux’s was a real find. So much stuff, painstakingly arranged.
The merchants were friendly and pleased to chat with a couple of tourists.
One person’s junk is another’s….treasure!

In July 2013 the first Montreal Mural festival took place on Saint-Laurent Blvd. Twenty street artists from all over the world were invited to create murals. This one was done by Omen, a Montreal local.
It was cool to be walking along and see these huge, colorful murals decorating the sides of buildings. This one was painted by Other from Toronto.
This is detail from a mural by Labrona, another Montreal local.
More detail from Labrona’s mural.
I’m not 100% sure this one was part of the festival but I like it so…..

Sunrise at the Vieux Port. Across the way is Habitat 67, designed by architect Moshe Safdie. Loosely based on the idea of a kibbutz, the 158 interlocking concrete forms are supposed to reflect cities of the future, when population would outgrow urban space.
- Montreal is a bike friendly city with over 600 kilometers of real bike paths. It’s amazing how many people ride bikes.
A quiet moment at the Vieux Port.
